The Himachal Pradesh transport department has established RTOs all across the districts of the state. RTO Himachal Pradesh provides services such as vehicle registration, licenses, tax, issuing driver’s license, Vehicle Fitness Certificate and maintains the rules and regulations of the Motor Vehicle Act.

Latest Update

Himachal Pradesh will cancel the registration of 15-year-old vehicles from January 13, 2024, onwards.

The Himachal Pradesh RTO is in charge of car registration and driving license issuance. RTO has various different functions, some of which are as follows:

  • Motor vehicle registration in the state.
  • The issuance of a driver's license.
  • A vehicle Objection System is issued.
  • Driving license renewal.
  • The issuance of a conductor license.
  • The issuance of a learner's Permit.
  • Vehicles are given fitness certificates and NOCs.
  • Duplicate driver's licenses are issued.
  • Transportation management in the state.
  • The creation of state laws and regulations.
  • Offering online permit applications for transportation vehicles.

HP Vehicle Registration Process

To register your car with an RTO in Himachal Pradesh, you must go to the RTO closest to your place of residence and present all necessary paperwork, including Form 20. You will also be required to pay a registration fee. The RTO representative will then verify all of your documents. Once the official is satisfied that all of your information is correct, the RTO will mail the RC certificate to your communication address.

Documents Required for the RTO Himachal Pradesh Vehicle Registration Procedure

The below-mentioned documents will be required in order to register your vehicle:

  • Completed application (Form 20).
  • Form 21.
  • Sales Certificate.
  • Insurance certificate in good standing.
  • Address proof.
  • Certificate of roadworthiness (Form 22).
  • Certificate of customs clearance with a bond (for imported autos).
  • Temporary registration (issued by the registering authorities) or dealer trade certificate.
  • A tax clearance certificate (Form 60) or a declaration.
  • Payable tax (depending on the vehicle category).
  • Fees are applicable.

How to Get a License from Himachal Pradesh RTO?

  1. In Himachal Pradesh, applicants can apply for a driving license online through the state government's website (https://himachal.nic.in/).
  2. Then, on the left side of the website, click on an online driving license.
  3. After that, you'll be taken to parivahan.gov.in.
  4. Fill out the form online and upload your documents.
  5. You must pay the fees when you upload the documents.
  6. You must then go to the RTO with copies of your original paperwork and set a time for your driving test.
  7. Then take the driving exam.
  8. After completing the test, the applicant will be awarded a permanent driver's license within a few days.

Documents Required to Apply for the License from RTO HP

  • Photographs in passport size.
  • Learner's Permit.
  • Forms 4 and 5 are available for download.
  • Identity documentation such as an educational certificate, passport, or birth certificate.
  • Proof of address, such as a LIC policy, an employer's certificate, a ration card, a passport, or a voter's identification card.
