There are over 32.7 million registered motor vehicles in Uttar Pradesh, and to enforce the motor vehicles Act, the Uttar Pradesh transport department has set up 77 active RTOs throughout the state. The UP RTO undertakes the role and responsibility of issuing driver's licenses, registering motor vehicles, collecting road tax, maintaining traffic rules, and much more.
RTO Uttar Pradesh also functions virtually through the official portal - http://uptransport.upsdc.gov.in/ to cater to the needs of the citizens. This post covers the functions of RTOs, the vehicle registration process and the associated charges.
UP RTOs has several different functions, and the primary duties are mentioned below:
- The issue of a new registration certificate.
- Temporary RC book for vehicles and NOC to transfer vehicles.
- Process to transfer ownership.
- Vehicle renewal registration certificate.
- Issue national permits and state-level permits.
- Permits for light goods, local goods, auto rickshaws, heavy goods, and more.
- Renewal of applicable permits for motor vehicles.
- Taxi and tourist permits.
- Issue of a learner's license and permit.
- Issue of driver's licenses in India and internationally.
- Issue of conductor license.
- Renewal of licenses.
- Conducting practical exams and online exams for a license.
- The collection of tax from individual citizens or motor vehicle owners.
- Payment of road tax online and offline.
- Collection and issuance of license, permit, registration, and application fees.
- The issuance of certificates for CNG and LPG vehicles.
- PUC insurance and certified testing conduction.
- The regular checkpoints for vehicle entry and exit in UP to make sure the vehicles will comply with the required conditions.
