Below are the steps that an individual must follow to register their vehicle under the Patna Regional Transport Office (RTO):
Step 1: Visit the Patna RTO office with the new vehicle.
Step 2: Fill out the vehicle registration form/form 20 and submit it along with the required documents. You can also download Form 20 online through the Parivahan portal.
Step 3: The submitted documents and the vehicle will be inspected by the RTO officials.
Step 4: Pay the registration fees and road tax (if applicable) at the cash counter.
Step 5: Now, the IMV (Inspector of Motor Vehicles) will inspect the vehicle for roadworthiness and vehicle fitness.
Step 6: After successful verification, the RTO officials will approve the vehicle registration.
Step 7: The RTO will send the Vehicle RC to the applicant by post at the registered address.
This vehicle RC is valid for 15 years from the date of registration (for private vehicles). For transport vehicles, it remains valid as long as the fitness certificate is valid. The owner must apply for renewal within 30 days of expiry for vehicle re-registration.
