Having an Aadhar Card with you has become as important as having a nutritious appetite every day. Though this resemblance is a bit canny, it is true!

The Government of India has made it mandatory for every resident to get an Aadhaar Card created and issued in their name to ensure security. They have even been making many attempts to link it to several other identity documents. One such other document which can be linked to your Aadhar Card is your Driving License.

Yes, it is possible to link driving license with Aadhar, though it is not mandatory for now. Through this blog, we will acquaint you with all the steps needed to get these two documents linked. So let's start, shall we?

Link Aadhar to Driving Licence Online & Offline

Here is the step-by-step online and offline process to link DL and Aadhar-

  • Online Process

The driving license link to Aadhar card online process involves a few easy steps. The procedure is mentioned below-

Step 1: Open your browser and visit the respective road transport portal of the state from where your Driving License was issued. Search for the 'Link Aadhaar' option and click on the same.

Step 2: A dropdown menu will appear. Click on 'Driving License' from the list.

Step 3: In this step, enter the number of your driving license and click on 'Get Details'.

Step 4: On the next screen, your driving license details will appear. A box will also be displayed at the bottom wherein you will have to fill in your Aadhaar Card number and your mobile number.

Step 5: Once you fill these two, click 'Submit'. You will receive a one-time password on the registered phone number.

Step 6: Enter the OTP in the given field on the screen for completing verification. Once it's done, the online process to link driving licence with Aadhar will get completed.

  • Offline Process

If you find the online process a bit complicated, worry not because the process to link DL with Aadhar can be done offline too!

Here are the necessary steps-

Step 1: The first step is to mark a visit to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) that issued your driving license.

Step 2: Reach out to an executive and get an Aadhaar linking form.

Step 3: Fill out the form and ensure to check the details twice that you have filled in. Note that you must enter your DL number and the Aadhaar number here in this form, so be careful while penning the same.

Step 3: Next, submit this completely filled form to the authorized executive and ensure to attach a self-attested copy of your Aadhaar Card and the driving license with it.

Step 4: A proper assessment and verification will be carried out by the RTO. On successful verification, you will receive an SMS on the registered mobile number confirming that your DL has been linked to your Aadhar card.

Importance and Benefits of Linking Your Aadhaar Card to Driving License

Though it is optional to link Aadhar to DL yet, linking these two can be of great benefit because-

  • It will help the Indian government recognize fake Driving licenses and cancel their respective registration as earliest.

  • It will become easier to identify and punish those illegally holding multiple driving licenses.

  • A proper driving licence aadhar link procedure will help to have a simplified and unified platform with the DL and Aadhar details in one place.

  • Identifying and punishing the license holders who violate driving regulations will become easy.
