The major services offered by the Regional Transport Office Madurai are as follows:

  •  Vehicle Registrations

RTO Madurai is responsible for registering all kinds of motor vehicles within the city limits. It also manages all aspects related to motor vehicle registration, such as issuing and renewing vehicle RC, transfer of vehicle ownership, updating registration details, removal of hypothecation, and conducting fitness checks for vehicles. 

  •  Issue of Driving License

The regional transport offices in Madurai are also in charge of issuing different types of licenses, such as driving licenses, learner's licenses, commercial licenses, or international driving permits. 

  •  Issue of Permits

The RTO issues permits to tourist and commercial vehicles within the region. 

  •  Collection of Taxes

The Madurai RTO is also responsible for collecting taxes from the citizens on behalf of the state government and using that for the development and infrastructure of the region. 

  •  Mechanical Inspection of Vehicles

Process of Vehicle Registration at Regional Transport Office Madurai

You can get your vehicle registration done at Madurai by following the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the nearest RTO office in Madurai with your vehicle. 

Step 2: Fill in the application form and attach the required documents. One can also collect this form online through the Parivahan portal.

Step 3: Your motor vehicle will be inspected for safety and verification. Upon approval, your registration will be sanctioned. 

Step 4: Your Vehicle Registration Card or smart Card will be delivered to the registered address within 30 days.

How to get an RTO Driving License in Madurai?

The steps to obtain a driver's license in Madurai are as follows:

Step 1: Visit the mParivahan portal

Step 2: Select "Online Services" > "Driver License Related Services".

Step 3: Choose "Tamil Nadu" from the drop-down menu. Select the RTO as “Madurai”.

Step 4: Proceed to "Apply Online" > "New Driving License".

Step 5: Fill in the application form online and upload the necessary documents.

Step 6: Submit the application online.

Step 7: Print out the application form and acknowledgement.

Step 8: Schedule a driving test slot and pay the application fees online.

Step 9: Visit the RTO office in Madurai and submit the printed application form. 

Step 10: Take the driving test. The applicant will get their driving licence within 2-3 weeks if they pass the driving test.

How to get an NOC from the Madurai RTO Office?

One can follow the steps mentioned below to get a NOC from the RTO Office, Madurai:

Step 1: Apply for a no objection certificate (NOC) under section 48 of Form 28.

Step 2:  Submit the form to the registering authority where the vehicle was previously registered.

Step 3: Pay the application fee and submit the required documents. For a transport vehicle, additional documents such as permit surrender, challan clearance, tax clearance, and fitness clearance certificate are required.
