A Permanent Account Number (PAN) is a 10-digit unique alphanumeric identifier issued to each individual in India by the Income Tax Department. Individuals in India can use their PAN cards to conduct financial activities and pay taxes. It also assists the IT Department in tracking an individual’s financial activity.
Therefore, one must keep their pan card updated because any mistake on the PAN Card detail can be problematic in future. PAN Card corrections or updation can be made online through the NSDL or UTIITSL websites.
Here we will discuss the online process to update pan card through the NSDL or UTIITSL portal.
What is PAN Card Correction Form?
In some circumstances, such as a name change after marriage or a change in residence, PAN card data must be modified or corrected. Therefore, the PAN card correction form is submitted by the applicant when there is a need for any updation or correction in their PAN Card. One can download the pan card correction form from the websites of UTI Infrastructure Technology And Services Limited (UTIITSL) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).
How to Update PAN Card Through UTIITSL?
You may simply update/correct your information on a PAN card through the official website of UTIITSL. Given below are the step for pan card correction:
- Step 1: Go to the UTIITSL website or UTIITSL home page.
- Step 2: In the Services section, choose “PAN.”
- Step 3: In the “Change/Correction in PAN Data” box, click “Apply.”
- Step 4: Select ‘Changes or Corrections in Existing PAN Data/Reprint of PAN Card (No Changes in Existing PAN Data)’ from the ‘Application Type’ dropdown box.
- Step 5: From the ‘Category’ dropdown option, choose the appropriate category for the assessee. For example, if the PAN is registered in your name, choose ‘Individual’ from the list.
- Step 6: Enter your name, date of birth, email address, and cell phone number.
- Step 7: Enter the Captcha and press the “Submit” button.
- Step 8: Your request will be registered, and a Token Number will be emailed to the email address you supplied. You can proceed with the procedure by clicking the button just underneath it.
- Step 9: After you proceed, you will be routed to the form.
- Step 10: Enter all of the required information, such as your father’s name, mother’s name (optional), and Aadhaar number, and then click ‘Next.’
- Step 11: You will now be sent to a new page where you may edit your address.
- Step 12: Upload all required papers, including proof of address, proof of age, proof of identification, and a PAN.
- Step 13: Sign the declaration and press the “Submit” button.
- Step 14: You’ll be sent to the payment page. Payment methods include demand draught, net banking, and credit card/debit card.
- Step 15: An acknowledgment slip will be created upon successful payment. The applicant should print it and submit it to the NSDL e-gov office, along with physical verification of papers. In addition, place an image in the area provided and write a sign over it. On the top of the envelope, write ‘Application for PAN Change’ and the acknowledgment number. The UTIITSL PAN apply has been completed.
How to Update PAN Card for Name Change?
In some cases, incorrect names may be written on a PAN card. In such cases, one can easily update or correct the name on their PAN card through the UTIITSL, NSDL PAN Card update process. Follow the procedures below to update the name on a PAN Card online:
- The request for online applications may be made through TIN-NSDL or UTSL PAN.
- In the event of offline applications, a link to obtain the PAN card form is provided here.
- The PAN card correction form must be carefully filled out in order to supply all necessary information.
- Before submitting the form, the photograph must be attached, and the form must be signed.
- In the case of an offline application, a demand draft in the name of NSDL must be delivered with the application form to the NSDL’s registered address.
- Payment for the online application must be paid online through a debit/credit card or net banking.
- A 15-digit acknowledgment number is produced, which may be used to verify the status of a PAN card.
- Once properly filed, the applicant receives the revised PAN card within 45 days of application.
- The cardholder’s address is not included on the PAN card.
- The address to deliver the PAN card hard copy via post is specified in the form. You can amend your address by completing the application correction form 49A offline.
- The address cannot be altered for forms submitted online and confirmed using an Aadhaar OTP. By default, the address in the Aadhaar database is used as your address.
- If you wish to alter your address, you must first update it on your Aadhaar card and then fill out PAN Card Form 49A afresh.
Documents Needed for the UTIITSL, NSDL PAN Correction
The applicant must submit the following supporting papers for PAN correction requests such as name, date of birth, and address change:
- When there is the need for a name change after marriage, a marriage certificate, wedding invitation card, name change publication in a gazette, and a copy of the spouse's passport or identity proof should be submitted.
- For address change, the new address must be stated in the application form for a change in contact address, which will subsequently be updated in the Income Tax Department database.
- Individuals must give proof of publishing of name change in the gazette for any other case of the name change, whereas organizations must submit Registration Certificate for a name change.
- Individuals should be able to modify their date of birth, and organizations should be able to amend their formation date if they have paperwork stating the correct date.
