Functions of RTO Office Meerut

The following are the major services and functions of the Regional Transport Office Meerut:

  • Issuing temporary and permanent Registration Certificates: The RTO of Meerut is in charge of registering vehicles and providing number plates with the registration number in Meerut. 
  • Conducting driving tests to issue driving licenses: For an individual to obtain a driving license from the RTO of Meerut, he or she will have to go through the procedure of a driving test. Only after successfully completing the driving test will the applicant receive the driving license.

Vehicle Registration Process in Regional Transport Office Meerut

There are mainly two types of vehicle registrations done in the Regional Transport Office of Meerut: Temporary Registration and Permanent Registration. Temporary registration is only valid for a period of 7 days. Therefore, you will be required to get a permanent vehicle registration soon after the purchase of the vehicle.

  • Step 4: As a next step, the Regional Transport officer will inspect the vehicle and the submitted documents.
  • Step 5: After successful verification of all the data, the officer will approve the Vehicle Registration.
  • Step 6: The RTO office will start the Smart Card Vehicle RC procedure, and once completed, it will be mailed to the applicant's registered mailing address.

How to Apply for a Driving License through RTO Office Meerut?

In order to apply for a license in Meerut, you will have to follow the steps that are listed below:

  • Step 1: Visit the RTO Meerut official website (http://uptransport.upsdc.gov.in/en-us/RTO-LUCKNOW/RTO-MEERUT), where you will be directed to the Parivahan portal.
  • Step 2: On the Parivahan portal (https://vahan.parivahan.gov.in/), choose ‘Online Services’ and click on ‘Driving License Related Services’.
  • Step 3: Enter the state name as ‘UP’ and choose the city name as ‘Meerut’.
  • Step 4: Fill out the application form for a driving license.
  • Step 5: Choose the category of your license.
  • Step 6: Upload the essential documents, such as address proof, ID proof, date of birth proof, LL if required, and more.

Types of License Issued by Meerut Regional Transport Office

The RTO of Meerut issues four types of licenses, and they have been explained below:

  • Learner's License: This is the type of provisional license issued to drivers who are learning to drive. It is valid for 180 days. 
  • Permanent Driving License: This form of driving license is permanent and qualifies the holder as a competent driver and permits them to drive legally on Indian roads.  
  • International Driving Permit: When an individual wishes to drive vehicles in foreign countries and holds an Indian driving permit, they are eligible to apply for an international driving permit. This license allows the individual to legally drive abroad.
  • Commercial Driving License: A commercial driver's license is issued to an individual who drives for commercial purposes, and the license is issued based on the type of vehicle. This kind of license is mostly issued to bus and truck drivers. However, this license can also be used as a private driving license document.
