The above quarter India's ambitions in renewable power were further cemented by signing with Andhra Pradesh state a deal for Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd (TPREL) As per the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), up to 7 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy projects are to be developed in the state, involving an estimated investment of around ₹49,000 crore. In future, it will become one of the biggest renewable energy project in Andhra Pradesh.

The MoU covers seeking opportunities for the collaborative development of solar, wind, and hybrid projects. These projects may include or exclude energy storage solutions; however, each offers a flexible approach to grid integration and energy management. TPREL will conduct initial evaluations, techno-financial feasibility studies, and development activities to ascertain the viability of these proposed ventures.

The partnership is in line with the State's bold Integrated Clean Energy Policy, under which Andhra Pradesh plans to develop more than 160 GW of renewable energy capacity in the State, with an anticipated investment potential of ₹10 lakh crore. The state’s Minister for Information Technology, Electronics & Communications, and Human Resources Development Nara Lokesh noted that investments and innovation of this nature were part of the state’s mission to “fast-track clean energy deployment with the assured long-term economic and environmental benefits.” We expect that this policy will also create 7.5 lakh jobs for the people of Andhra Pradesh.

The New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) would facilitate and assist the potential bidders in site identification as well as evacuation infrastructure, which are critical to the implementation of the projects.

Leveraging their expertise and technology, this partnership, according to Deepesh Nanda, chief executive officer and managing director, TPREL, will "drive large-scale renewable adoption and contribute to India's sustainability goals." He added, Generation up to 7 GW from clean energy projects would reinforce Andhra Pradesh as a renewable energy nucleus and will accelerate its shift towards a low-carbon economy.

In addition to its contribution to the state’s clean energy goals, the MoU is anticipated to give a major boost to the local economy. It is expected to promote skills development, provide livelihood opportunities and eventually address the socio-economic progress of Andhra Pradesh.

The details include the planned capacities, which are 4,200 MW of solar projects and 2,800 MW of wind projects across Kadapa, Kurnool, Anantapur and Prakasam districts. Additionally TPREL plans to fund rooftop solar projects and electric vehicle (EV) charging stations throughout the state.
