Indian stock markets are looking to open lower on Friday GIFT Nifty was trading 257 points lower at 24,680 level. Indian markets are  set for a sharp gap-down , with GIFT Nifty futures indicating a drop of nearly 300 points, reflecting heightened global risk aversion.

Nifty 50 last closed at 24,888.2, down 1.01%, and Sensex at 81,691.98, down 1%.All sectoral indices ended in the red on Thursday, with auto, FMCG, metal, IT, and energy stocks leading the decline

Key Drivers Today: Middle East Conflict, Oil Price Surge, and US-China Trade Tensions

Global markets are under significant pressure today due to a sharp escalation in geopolitical tensions after Israel launched air strikes against Iran, which has sent oil prices soaring—Brent and WTI crude futures are both up over 9%, with Brent nearing $77 per barrel. 

This spike in oil prices is impacting sectors globally, especially those reliant on oil such as aviation, tyres, and paints, and is expected to keep oil marketing companies and related stocks in focus. Adding to the uncertainty, US President Donald Trump has threatened to impose 55% tariffs on Chinese imports, while China has downplayed the prospects of a comprehensive trade deal, further fueling risk aversion and weighing on global trade sentiment.

Global Market Turmoil: Geopolitical Tensions and Trade Wars Drive Volatility

In the US, futures for the S&P 500 and Dow Jones are down over 1% in the Asian session, reflecting investor nervousness about both the Middle East conflict and unresolved US-China trade tensions. Meanwhile, Asian markets are broadly lower, with Japan’s Nikkei, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng, and China’s CSI 300 all declining, as investors move toward safe-haven assets like gold and the Swiss franc. In India, the GIFT Nifty is indicating a gap-down opening of nearly 1% as domestic equities react to these global headwinds, with additional volatility expected from the weekly F&O expiry and recent broad-based selling across all sectors.

Stock to watch 

Torrent Power released information that its wholly-owned subsidiary company, Torrent Green Energy, won a 300 MW wind energy project from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). The project will be commissioned within 24 months of the date of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signing with an estimated investment of ₹ 2,650 crore. 

NTPC announced the successful trial run of Unit-3 (660 MW) of its Barh Super Thermal Power Project, Stage-1. This addition has increased NTPC's installed capacity, which now totals 60,926 MW on a standalone basis and 82,028 MW at the group level.

HCL Technologies was appointed as a strategic engineering services partner by Swedish premium carmaker Volvo Cars on Thursday. Under this alliance, HCL Tech will enable Volvo Cars' engineering aspirations from its Gothenburg-based automotive Centre of Excellence, complemented by its offshore and nearshore delivery centres across the world.

ICICI Bank received Reserve Bank of India (RBI) approval for the reappointment of Rakesh Jha as Executive Director for a two-year term, effective September 2.

Canara Bank's board approved a capital raising plan of up to ₹ 9,500 crore through bonds for the financial year 2025–26.

YES Bank witnessed the RBI approving a six-month extension for Prashant Kumar as Managing Director & CEO effective October 6, 2025, or until a new incumbent takes charge, whichever is earlier.

Reliance Industries Limited, through its subsidiary Siddhant Commercials Limited, offloaded around 3.5 crore equity shares of Asian Paints on June 13 for a price of ₹ 2,201 per share. The sale leaves Siddhant Commercials with a balance of 87 lakh equity shares in Asian Paints.

DCM Shriram's board of directors are considering the takeover of a 100% holding in Hindusthan Specialty Chemicals.

Genus Power Infrastructures observed Chiswick Investment Pte. Ltd, a unit of Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC, launching a block deal to sell a 3.6% stake, with an option to scale up by a further 2.28%.

Crompton Greaves Consumer Electricals incurred a letter of award from Maharashtra Energy Department Agency for the design, production, supply, and commissioning of 4500 Off-grid Solar Photovoltaic Water Pumping Systems in Maharashtra.

SEPC, a construction company, won a ₹ 650 crore solar EPC project under the PM-KUSUM initiative from Parmeshi Urja Ltd for a 133 MW solar project spread over four Maharashtra districts with an execution duration of 12–18 months.

Talbros Automotive Components and Joint Ventures securing ₹ 580 crore of multi-year orders in EV, export, and domestic business, including ₹ 260 crore from its sealing business and ₹ 290 crore for chassis orders by JV Marelli Talbros.

Sasken Technologies making an announcement regarding a partnership with Microsoft MDEP to provide cutting-edge engineering to OEMs.

Schneider Electric Infrastructure being served a corrected tax notice lowering its demand to ₹ 3.05 crore, having a limited financial effect owing to reclassification of taxes.
