Stock Markets to Remain Closed on November 20 on Account of Maharashtra Assembly Elections

The stock markets will remain closed on November 20, 2024, on account of assembly elections in Maharashtra. A notification issued by the National Stock Exchange (NSE) on November 8, said, “The Exchange hereby notifies Wednesday, November 20, 2024 as a trading holiday on account of Assembly Elections in Maharashtra.” In addition to the NSE, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) will also remain closed for trading on November 20.

Voting for the Maharashtra legislative assembly will take place on November 20 with the counting of votes scheduled to take place three days later.

Due to the 288-member state legislative assembly elections, the Maharashtra government has announced a state-wide public holiday in all polling constituencies.

Additionally, the stock market will remain closed on November 15, due to Guru Nanak Jayanti. Earlier this month, the market was closed on November 1 for Diwali. However, trading was conducted during the annual hour-long Muharat trading session.

The stock markets declared a holiday on May 20 of this year due to the Lok Sabha elections. A trading holiday was also observed on January 22 for the inauguration of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

Going ahead, the markets will remain closed on December 25, 2024, on account of Christmas.
