Rupee Trades Marginally Lower Against US Dollar: Falls 1 Paisa to ₹87.22

The Indian rupee maintained a practically equivalent position with the US dollar on Wednesday March 12, 2025, by falling just 1 paisa in value to ₹87.22. The rupee opened its interbank foreign exchange foreign trade at ₹87.24 then declined to ₹87.32 before regaining strength at ₹87.22 against the greenback. The rupee maintained roughly its former price point by trading at yet one paisa below its previous mark.

Previous Day's Trading

The rupee reached its closing value of ₹87.21 against the dollar the previous day Tuesday before gaining 10 paise. After Tuesday the Indian rupee posted a ten-rupee increase but this positive development stemmed from its thirty-six-rupee setback on the previous trading day.

Factors Influencing Rupee's Performance

Multiple indicators from forex analysts explained why the rupee showed unstable behavior together with its slight depreciation. The market faced three main factors that affected trade tariffs alongside an American currency rise and a resurgence in crude oil value. The domestic equity market selling and continual flow of foreign capital exerted downward pressure on the rupee.

Market Participants Awaiting Macroeconomic Data

Market participants maintained a conservative approach while waiting for both Indian and American economic data to come out during the day.

Dollar Index and Crude Oil Prices

The dollar index consisting of six major currencies indicated a 0.07 percent increase to reach 103.55 while trades continued. Brent crude showed a 0.66 percent increase in the futures market when it reached US $70.02 per barrel.

Domestic Equity Market Performance

The domestic equity stocks remained neutral in their market trends throughout the trading session. The 30-share BSE Sensex experienced a minimal 0.28 points decrease to reach 74,102.04 points while the broader Nifty declined by 10.70 points to settle at 22,487.20 points.

Foreign Institutional Investors' Activity

The Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) through net selling withdrew equities worth ₹2,823.76 crore on Tuesday as per exchange data.
