NTPC Signs MoUs with Govt. of MP to Invest Over ₹2 Lakh Crore

During the Global Investors Summit in Bhopal, which took place on February 24th and 25th of 2025, NTPC Limited and its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd signed various Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) with the Government of Madhya Pradesh. The agreements contain renewable energy agreements focusing on solar power, wind power, pump hydro, and other carbon-neutral energy sources operating in Madhya Pradesh.

Details of the MoUs

  • NGEL and MPPGCL signed a memorandum that enables the two companies to build Renewable Energy projects higher than 20 GW in Madhya Pradesh with an estimated investment worth ₹1,20,000 Crore. The establishment of a Joint Venture Company (JVC) will emerge through these actions. Through the JVC, the Renewable Purchase Obligation of Madhya Pradesh DISCOMs and Renewable Generation Obligation of Madhya Pradesh Generating Company will effectively be reduced.
  • The second MOU connects NTPC Ltd. with the Government of MP to establish sustainable power plants using non-fossil fuel methods, which will require a total investment of ₹80,000 Crores. MPPMCL represented the state government in signing the MoU for this agreement. Under this agreement, the Government of MP and NTPC plan to put up to ₹4000 Crores for building an 800 MW Pumped Hydro Storage project within the state.

Significance of the MoUs

Senior officials, including Dr. Mohan Yadav as the Hon’ble Chief Minister of MP and Shri Gurdeep Singh as CMD of NTPC Ltd, signed these MoUs. The pacts will support sustainable energy initiatives as they help the Government of India achieve its energy transition and Net Zero objectives.

The share price of NTPC Ltd stood at ₹316.85 per share on the NSE during trading on February 25th 2025 with an opening market price decline of 1.02 percent from the previous session. NTPC Ltd achieved its highest stock value at ₹448.30 during September 30, 2024 which became the benchmark for its year-long performance before its price reached its lowest point at ₹292.70 on February 17, 2025.
