MTF Updates: Position Conversion, Margin Shortfall & More

Over the last few months, Groww has made some significant improvements to the Margin Trading Facility (MTF), keeping in mind the evolving needs of active traders like you. 

Whether you are looking to hold MTF positions longer, manage shortfalls with better clarity, or place orders beyond market hours, we have got you covered.

Here is a summary of everything new in MTF.

✅ MTF to Delivery Conversion

You can now convert your MTF position to a delivery position on Groww, giving you the freedom to hold your investments for the long term, beyond the typical MTF holding period.

How it works:

• You can place a conversion request 24/7.
• Groww processes all requests between 4 PM and 6 PM every trading day.

Here’s how you can place a conversion request:

• Go to the “Positions” tab and click on the position that you want to convert.
• Click “Convert to Delivery”. You might need to add money in case of an insufficient balance.
• Your request will be placed and processed at eod.

➡️Things to Keep in Mind:

1. You need to maintain enough balance to cover your loan till the time of processing. Having an insufficient balance will lead to the failure of conversion.
2. Your conversion request will fail if you:
1. Sell any or the entire quantity of your position.
2. Buy any more in the same position.

✅ Shortfall Visibility

Shortfall in MTF can be stressful, especially when it is not clear what caused it or how to fix it. That’s why we have made it easier to track and understand your shortfall directly from the Positions tab.

Here’s what’s new:

• The shortfall amount is now visible in your MTF position view.
• The shortfall is calculated every night, so the value shown is provisional and may change post EOD processes.

Here’s how you can track and understand your shortfall:

• Go to the “Positions” tab and click on the MTF Position view.
  

  

• You can see how the shortfall was calculated by clicking on the underlined value.

  

• Please maintain this balance till EOD. If you have enough balance, you will come out of this shortfall by EOD.
  
  

✅Improved Position Details Page

At Groww, we have redesigned the Position Details Page to show you exactly how your money and margin are being used in any MTF trade. Now, when you tap on a position, you’ll see:

• Paid by You: The amount paid by you upfront.
• Groww Funded: The amount on which interest is being computed.
• % returns on Paid by You: Total Returns/Amount you’ve paid from your pocket.

➡️ How to view it:

1. Go to the Positions tab.
2. Select any MTF position.
3. Tap on ‘View Details’.

✅AMO (After Market Orders) for MTF

At Groww, we have now enabled After Market Orders (AMO) for MTF positions. That means you can place MTF orders 24/7, even after the markets close, and they’ll be queued for execution when markets open the next day.
