Indian markets look to trade today, May 6, after Monday's trading saw major indices make new year highs. The benchmark BSE Sensex rose almost 295 points, or 0.37 per cent, to close at 80,796.84, its record closing so far in 2025. The NSE Nifty also advanced, gaining 114.45 points, or 0.47 per cent, to finish at 24,461.15, its record closing level during the year. It was bolstered by sustained foreign fund flows and a steep decline in international crude oil prices on Monday.

But early signs point towards a possibly subdued opening of Tuesday's trading. Gift Nifty was lower by 0.02% at 24,591 at 6:54 AM. Another source reported Gift Nifty higher by 0.14% at 24,597, signalling the possibility of a higher opening.

Key Stocks in Focus

Paytm (One 97 Communications): Paytm is set to announce its financial results for the quarter and year ended March 31, 2025, later today its divided on the outcome, with some expecting a swing to profitability despite a potential 13% drop in revenue

Paras Defence and Space Technologies: Paras Defence is likely to be in focus today. The company has said that it has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Israel-based HevenDrones Ltd to explore business opportunities in the defence and civil drone segments. Under this arrangement, both the companies plan to form a Joint Venture (JV) in India for the purpose of developing and manufacturing logistics and cargo drones.

Fortis Healthcare: Fortis Healthcare is one of the stocks to watch out for today. Fortis Hospitals received a rectification order under the Income Tax Act, leading to a cancellation of a tax demand of ₹89.53 crore for Assessment Year 2022-23 to ₹Nil. This order rectified past mistakes.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M)reported a robust fourth quarter, with standalone net profit rising 22 per cent year-on-year to ₹2,437 crore, led by strong SUV demand and improved tractor margins. Consolidated profit after tax in the March quarter grew 13.34 per cent. Revenue from operations grew 25 per cent year-on-year to ₹31,353 crore. The firm also stated that it planned to set up a new factory mainly for passenger cars, and it hoped that it would start production by March 2028. M&M's performance had helped Maruti Suzuki's domestic passenger car market 

share fell below 40 per cent in April, with M&M becoming the second largest player.

Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), the hospitality business of Tata Group, witnessed a sharp increase in fourth-quarter consolidated net profit. Net profit grew 28.4 per cent year-on-year to ₹562.66 crore. Revenue from operations was up too, by 27.3 percent to ₹2,425.14 crore. Total expenses during the period rose to ₹1,764.26 crore.

Other players with significant developments include: 

HPCL, IOC, and BPCL, zoomed on Monday after a steep correction in international crude oil prices. Brent crude fell 1.45 per cent at USD 60.40 a barrel, and had fallen 3.65 per cent to USD 59.05 a barrel in morning trade.

Adani Group stocks ended sharply higher on Monday. This surge came amid reports that representatives for Gautam Adani met with US administration officials to seek the dismissal of criminal charges in a bribery probe. Adani Total Gas zoomed 11.01 per cent, Adani Enterprises jumped 6.96 per cent, Adani Green Energy rallied 6.61 per cent, Adani Ports surged 6.29 per cent, and Adani Power climbed 5.96 per cent on the BSE.

Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported a good April, with the total electricity traded volume rising by 26 per cent year-on-year to 10,584 million units.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals' innovation division, Ichnos Glenmark Innovation (IGI), received 'Fast Track' status from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for ISB 2001, its experimental therapy for multiple myeloma.

RateGain Travel Technologies made leadership appointments, naming Deepak Kapoor as Chief Technology Officer and Rohan Mittal as Chief Financial Officer.

Fortis Healthcare received a rectification order under the Income Tax Act, lowering a tax demand of ₹89.53 crore for AY 2022-23 to Nil.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS)has allegedly reduced variable compensation for higher-ranking staff for the fourth quarter ending March, the third in a row this has happened for some staff.
