If you are planning to invest for your child's future, starting early can make a big difference. That is because of the power of compounding. The longer your money stays invested, the greater its potential to grow.
To invest in stocks and other securities, you need a Demat account, which holds your investments in electronic form. Since individuals below 18 years of age cannot open or operate a Demat account on their own, parents or legal guardians can open a Minor Demat Account on their behalf.
This guide explains everything you need to know about opening a Minor Demat Account on Groww, including eligibility, documents required, investment options, account opening steps, and what happens when the minor turns 18.
A Minor Demat Account is an investment account that is opened in the name of a child below the age of 18 years. Since minors cannot legally operate investment accounts on their own, the account is managed by a parent or a legal guardian until the child becomes an adult. It allows parents or legal guardians to invest in the name of their child.
However, once the minor becomes an adult, the account must be converted into a regular individual Demat account by completing the required KYC formalities.
Starting early gives investments more time to potentially grow through compounding. A Minor Demat Account also helps parents invest systematically towards their child's future goals.
Some key benefits include:
