The Demat account number is a 16-digit unique identifier assigned to investors when they open a Demat account with a security depository, stockbroker, or any other financial institution.
A Demat account holds all the securities (shares, bonds, mutual funds, etc.) in a single consolidated electronic format. It simplifies the process of buying, selling, and managing investments by providing a secure and paperless way to store financial instruments.
Every demat account has a unique demat account number which is made using a combination of “DP ID (Depository Participant’s identification number)” and “Client ID.”
If you are a Demat account holder and want to know your Demat account number, there are several ways to do so, which we will discuss in this blog.
When you open a demat account, the broker sends a “Welcome Letter” to your registered email address with a PDF attachment. Look for the “BO ID (Beneficiary Owner Identification Number),” which is your “demat account number.” (check the image below for reference)
The security depository (NSDL/CDSL) periodically shares a consolidated account statement (CAS) over the investor’s registered email. The CAS includes details of all your holdings and transactions along with the BO ID or Demat account number.
This is one of the best and most seamless ways to find your demat account number. Simply visit the account profile section on your broker’s app or website and find an option related to “Demat Account Number/BOID.”
You can contact your DP’s customer support via phone, email, or live chat.
Provide them with your registered details (like PAN, mobile number, or client ID) and they will help you know your Demat Account Number.
If you have opened a demat account with Groww, here’s how you can know your demat account number via the Groww app or website.
