Sensex & Nifty Closing Bell, March 3, 2025: The BSE Sensex down 112.16 points, while the NSE Nifty50 closed at 22,119.30

During the day, the Sensex moved between 73,649.72 and 72,784.54. The Nifty50 also had a ranged session at 22,261 - 22,004 level. Broader market indices showed a mixed trend, as the Nifty Midcap100 index ended up 0.14 percent, and the Nifty Smallcap100 index lost 0.27 percent.

  • SENSEX: Closed at 73,085.94, down 0.15%.
  • Nifty: Closed 22,119.30, down 0.02%.

Sectoral Performance

Sectoral indices were mixed, with Nifty IT, Metal, Auto, Pharma, Realty and Healthcare indices gaining up to 1.26 per cent. In contrast to these, Banking, Oil & Gas and Media indices on the NSE ended in the red, with losses of as much as 1.10 per cent.

Gainers and Losers

Bharat Electronics, Grasim, Eicher Motors, JSW Steel and UltraTech Cement were among the top gainers in the Nifty50, climbing as much as 4.65 per cent. On the downside, Reliance Industries, Coal India, Bajaj Auto, Bajaj Finserv and HDFC Bank were among the major losers.

Global Cues

  • Global cues: Asian markets were mixed amid investor hopes for clarity on ongoing tariff discussions between the U.S. and Mexico, Canada and other trading partners.
  • US Markets: The US stock markets ended the Friday session on a positive note where the S&P 500, Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq Composite advanced.
  • Crude Oil: Crude oil rates surged, with WTI crude at $70.42, higher by 0.93 per cent and Brent crude at $73.52, up by 0.97 per cent.
  • Gold: Gold prices fell by 2.3% in the last week but rose by 2.5% in the last month, with the price of 24-carat gold at ₹84,460 per 10 grams.

Additional Factors

Trump's Tariff Threats: After Trump threatened tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada, the market is on alert for additional chaos.

FII and DII Trading on March 3, FII made a net sale of shares to the tune of ₹11,639.02 crore, while DII made a net purchase of shares for ₹12,308.63 crore.
