The Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently conducted searches at the Gurgaon office of EaseMyTrip, India’s second-largest online travel platform, as part of an ongoing investigation into the Mahadev Betting App scandal. Despite the probe, EaseMyTrip has categorically denied any association with the illegal betting operations linked to the app. The share price of EaseMyTrip declined 16% to an intra-day low of ₹12.17 after the news came out.
The ED’s searches were part of a wider operation targeting over 50 locations across multiple states, including premises linked to EaseMyTrip’s founder and chairman Nishant Pitti. The investigation centers on the Mahadev Online Book, an alleged syndicate facilitating illegal online betting and money laundering through a complex network of benami bank accounts. The operations are reportedly run from Dubai and involve franchising to associates on a profit-sharing basis.
The probe was initiated following First Information Reports (FIRs) filed by the Chhattisgarh Police, which accused several individuals of orchestrating a ₹15,000 crore illegal gambling and cyber fraud racket. The ED’s multi-state raids aim to uncover the financial trail and connections linked to the betting syndicate.
In response to the searches, EaseMyTrip issued a clear statement denying any direct or indirect involvement with the Mahadev Betting App or any other betting platform. The company emphasized its full cooperation with the authorities to ensure transparency throughout the investigation.
“As per information available in the public domain, the ED conducted searches at over 50 locations of various persons/ corporates. Amongst them one was EaseMyTrip premises. While EaseMyTrip has no direct or indirect association with the Mahadev Betting App or any other betting platform, we remain fully committed to cooperating with the authorities throughout the course of the investigation” - said a EaseMyTrip spokesperson. Sources close to the investigation revealed that no incriminating evidence was found at EaseMyTrip’s premises during the searches conducted on Wednesday.
Founded in 2008 by the Pitti brothers, Nishant, Rikant, and Prashant - EaseMyTrip has grown into a major player in India’s online travel industry, offering a wide range of travel products and services. The company’s reputation as a legitimate business contrasts sharply with the allegations surrounding the Mahadev Betting App.
The ED’s probe into the Mahadev Online Book alleges that the syndicate operates by creating user IDs and enrolling new users for illegal betting websites, laundering money through layered transactions. The case has implicated several high-profile individuals and continues to unravel complex financial networks.
Although the ED raids led to a 16% decline in the company's share price, hitting an intra-day low of ₹12.17, the company has firmly denied any involvement in the illegal betting operations.
