Where can I check holdings of a mutual fund - the stocks that mutual fund has invested in?

I understand that mutual funds invest in shares of companies. Where can I find out what mutual fund invests in what stocks?

You can find out the relevant information in the company's website and other portals, mostly under the holdings section. Most of the funds disclose the following-

  • Major stocks where they have invested in i.e stocks which account for a major portion of their allocation/investment
  • Funds also display their sector wise allocation
  • The risk appetite of the fund

Such information is also available on various portals, including on Groww.

For example- Kotak Select Focus Fund

Below is the snapshot of the funds' website (link) -

The information can also be found on Groww's website (link)-

Although this varies from fund to fund, generally all the investment of a fund at a particular point in time is not available to the investors.

Holdings of a mutual fund should definitely be checked by an investor as it helps in taking a decision of investing. Moreover it also tells us the diversification of the fund.

Following steps can be followed for checking the holdings of a mutual fund:

·     Search the name of the fund whose holdings an investor wants to check.

·     As soon as the investor clicks on the fund, a new tab will open

·     Performance page of the fund will open

·     Go to Holdings Analysis to check the Sector Allocation Breakup and Equity Size breakup.

·     Holdings of stocks can also be checked by going to Top Holdings.

Under the holdings section of a mutual fund, you can easily check the stocks in which mutual fund has invested your capital. Mutual fund also discloses details other than holdings such as performance, holding analysis, etc

For example, if you have purchased DSP BlackRock Focus 25 Fund – Growth on Groww and want to know about the holdings under this mutual fund. Please follow the below steps:

Step 1: Go to our website groww.in

Step 2: Log in to your Groww account by filling in necessary details.

Step 3: In the search bar at the top, type ‘DSP BlackRock Focus 25 Fund’ and press enter.

Step 4: Now, the DSP BlackRock Focus 25 Fund page appears on the webpage.

Under the Top holdings section, you can see all the holdings of that mutual fund.

Also, under the holding analysis section, an investor can know about the other allocations details such as sector allocation, fund size breakup, number of securities, turnover, P/E ratio, etc.

The holdings of mutual funds can be looked from various portals, where lot of information about the holdings of mutual funds is available.

Example of this is Groww.

Have a look at the following mutual funds and their investments/their holdings

ICICI prudential Gilt fund

DSP BlackRock Natural Resources and New Energy Fund

Each fund mentions their holdings, percentage of holdings, rate of return year wise and also the graphical performance over the years.

Hope this answers your question.

Happy investing!
