As of 2020, it has a workforce of more than 97, 000 employees marketing products to over 180 countries. The company has operations located in more than 40 countries across the globe, such as Belgium, Guatemala, Mexico. Egypt, Panama, Ukraine, Korea, Russia, Pakistan, Venezuela, India, Spain, Costa Rica, Greece, Romania, Japan, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdoms, Poland, the United States, etc.
It offers products under ten categories, namely oral care, baby care, personal health care, family care, skin & personal care, grooming, fabric care, home care, feminine care and hair care. Under these categories the company markets over 50 brands like Pampers, Tide, Gain, Old Spice, Gillette, Dreft, Ambi Pur, Olay, All Good, Bounty, Just, Febreze, Align, Vicks, Safeguard, Puff, Rindex 3en1, The Art of Shaving, Head & Shoulders, Ariel, Fixodent, Salvo, etc. Among all these brands, the company earns the most from its Fabric & Home care products.
The company was established by William Procter and James Gamble, in 1837 in Cincinnati, Ohio. It provided the Union Army with soap and candles during the American Civil War. Its first innovation was a soap that would float in water called Ivory that they introduced during the 1880s. By the beginning of 1890s, it started to expand across the United States and began producing products like a vegetable oil shortening called Crisco. Over the years, it has acquired several companies such as Thomas Hedley Co., Folgers Coffee, Noxell (Noxzema), Pantene, Norwich Eaton Pharmaceuticals, Max Factor, Richardson-Vicks, Charmin paper mills, Merck Group, Gillette among others.
The company is a component in indices like the S&P 500, S&P 100 and Dow Jones Industrial average. Procter & Gamble shares trades in the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol PG. Forbes has recognised it in seven of its lists, such as Best Employers for Women, Best Employers for Diversity, World’s Best Employers, Global 2000, Canada’s Best Employers, etc.
