About the Company
On October 1, 2005, the firm was created by the combination of Tokyo-based Mitsubishi Tokyo Financial Group (MTFG) with Osaka-based UFJ Holdings. On January 1, 2006, the group's core banking operations, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi and UFJ Bank, combined to become MUFG Bank. This merger was initially slated for October 1, 2005, the same day the parent businesses were combined. Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group, Inc. is a Japanese bank holding and financial services business based in Chiyoda, Tokyo. As of 2016, MUFG's assets were around $2,459 billion, making it one of the Mitsubishi Group's Three Great Houses, with Mitsubishi Corporation and Mitsubishi Heavy Industries. It was also Japan's largest financial group and the world's second-largest bank holding company, with over US$1.8 trillion in deposits.;
