About the Company

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, FMC Corporation is an agricultural sciences company that provides solutions to crop growers around the world. As of 2020, it has its operations spread across South America, Asia Pacific, Europe, North America and Africa with about 6,500 employees in total. It has two types of business, namely, FMC Agricultural Solutions and FMC Corporate. It markets products that are based on Cyazypyr and Rynaxypy active ingredients. Its herbicide brands are Boral, Authority, Gamit, Command and Centium. It also offers flutriafol-based fungicides, alongside Hero and Talstar branded insecticides. The company also has biological products like Presence and Quartzo bionematicides under its portfolio. FMC’s history began in 1883, when its founder John Bean, a retired inventor, began building better insecticide spray pumps. He patented his invention and started to retail it in his shop behind his house. In 1904, his company was incorporated under the name Bean Spray Pump Company. By 1928, it renamed itself to John Bean Manufacturing Company and entered the San Francisco Exchange on 14th September of the same year. Soon it changed its name to Food Machinery Corporation after acquiring Sprague-Sells and Anderson-Barngrover Co. This acquisition made it the largest food machinery manufacturer of that time. In the following years, it underwent several mergers and acquisitions to expand its reach across the globe. In 1961, it changed its name back to FMC Corporation and the next year re-aligned itself into three divisions - Organic, Niagara and Inorganic. Throughout the 1960s it underwent significant expansions and established operations in Tokyo, Moscow, Sao Paulo etc. In 1978, FMC became the second-largest producer of hydrogen peroxide in the world. As of 2020, it ranks 19th in the Fortune 100 Fastest-Growing Companies and 578th in the Fortune 1000 list. It trades via the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol “FMC”, and in 2006 celebrated its 75th year of trading. It is an S&P 500 component and a part of the Forbes Global 2000 2020 list.;
