Air Products & Chemicals Inc is an international gas and chemical provider for industrial purposes headquartered in Allentown, Pennsylvania. This American company is one of the largest employers in Leigh Valley, with an employee volume of over 19,000 as of 2020.
It has operations running in 50 countries across the globe and has provided gas and chemicals to a few of the most significant projects in the world. Some notable ones are the Coal-to-Methanol project in Indonesia, World's largest Carbon-free Hydrogen project called NEOM in Saudi Arabia, Jiutai Coal-to-Syngas plant, and Lu'an Coal Gasification project in China.
Air Products provides solutions regarding Syngas, on-site generated gas, bulky & storage delivery, and temporary gas. It principally sells industrial gases like Carbon Monoxide, Helium, Argon, Hydrogen, Carbon di Oxide, Oxygen, and Nitrogen to industries worldwide. Other than these, it also offers rare gases, Syngas, food gas, chemical intermediates, and performance materials.
In 1940, it was founded to curb the need for Oxygen of mid-level consumers, and its first significant contribution was selling oxygen generators to support the military efforts during World War II. By the beginning of 1950, it started to support the American missile and space program and won the contest to produce a new rocket propellent - liquid hydrogen, with the launch of Sputnik in 1957.
Air Products has had a working relationship with NASA ever since providing it with liquid hydrogen for every space shuttle launch as well as the Mercury and Apollo missions. In 2013, its high purity built-in purifier argon was used to redetermine Boltzmann Constant's value more accurately.
It went public and entered the New York Stock exchange under the symbol APD in 1962, and by the mid-1960s widened its global presence by establishing subsidiaries in South Africa and West Germany. At the end of the 1970s, it entered the Fortune 500 list, and within three decades, it became one of the greatest integrated industrial gas companies in the world. APD share prices reached their highest at $312.67 on November 9th 2020.
Over the years, Air Products has received several recognitions for being environmentally-friendly and innovative. The most significant ones being Rushlight Hydrogen and Fuel Cells industry award in 2014, getting enlisted in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, and being named one of Maplecroft Climate Innovation Indexes (CIIs) Leader.;
