About the Company
Trivago N.V., abbreviated Trivago, is a Dutch multinational technology firm that specializes in internet-related hotels, accommodation, and metasearch services and products. Expedia Group, a travel business based in the United States, controls the majority of the company's shares. The firm was founded in the Netherlands. In January 2005, the firm was formed in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The founding team saw potential in the hotel search market and created Germany's first hotel search engine. Rheinfabrik, a mobile app product and development firm, was purchased by Trivago. Rheinfabrik's work remains independent of Trivago following the acquisition. Trivago's headquarters are in Düsseldorf, where the company's worldwide operations are based and where 90% of its employees work. Trivago launched operations in Leipzig and Palma de Mallorca in 2013. In addition, there are offices in Amsterdam and Shanghai. Trivago earns money from advertising partners largely through a cost-per-click (CPC) business model as a hotel price comparison website. Booking platforms, hotels, and other providers publish prices and advertise on the Trivago website, paying for Trivago user clicks. Trivago also provides free and paid versions of its Hotel Manager software, which hoteliers use to promote their properties on the Trivago website. Trivago bills itself as the world's largest online hotel search engine, comparing rates from over 1 million hotels and more than 250 booking sites globally.;
