Transdigm Group is a US-based aerospace manufacturing company that is primarily engaged in designing, engineering, production, and supplying high-end aerospace components that meet certain specific needs of aircraft operators and manufacturers. The company has been publicly held since 2006 and its shares traded in the NYSE under the ticker symbol TDG. It also became the second-most shorted S&P 500 component in 2017. The roots of the company date back to the year 1993 when it was known by the name TD Holding Corporation. It was created along with a private equity firm known as Kelso & Company, which went forward to acquire four aerospace companies: Adel Fasteners, Aero products, Wiggins Connectors, and Controls Corporation. After these initial acquisitions, the company was renamed Transdigm that manufactured and marketed small aircraft components like batteries, pumps, fuel connectors, etc. Later the company expanded its products with the acquisition of a series of aircraft companies and marked revenue growth of about 25% from the years 1993-1998. Some of its major acquisitions include McKechnie Aerospace Holdings in 2010 for $1.27 billion, Data Device Corp in 2016 for $1 billion, and Esterline in 2019 for $4 billion. Transdigm offers a diversified and wide range of aerospace products like mechanical/electro-mechanical actuators and controls, engine technology, ignition system, specialised pumps and valves, specialised AC/DC electric motors, lavatory components, aircraft hardware and cockpit security system, water faucets and system, audio systems and many others. The entire company business is organised and managed by 3 segments, which are Power & Control, Airframe, and Non-aviation. These three segments are engaged in developing, producing, and marketing products and components used to provide or control the power of the aircraft, for non-power airframe application, and non-aviation markets, respectively. The company had a workforce of 18,300 as of 2019 and maintained approximately 110 manufacturing facilities. Transdigm received several accolades and awards, among which World’s Most Innovative Companies 2017, Growth Championship 2017, and America’s Largest Public Companies 2018 are to name a few.
