About the Company

Seagate Technology PLC, or simply Seagate, is an American data storage company. The company was founded by Syed Iftikar, Finis Conner, Dough Mohan, David Thomas Mitchell, and Alan F. Shugart in 1978 as Shugart Technology and was incorporated in 1979. In October 1891, Seagate Technology, Inc. stocks were first traded on NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol of ‘’SGAT’’. In the year 2000, Seagate Technology decided to become a privately held company only to come public again two years later in December 2002. At that time, Seagate Technology went public again on NASDAQ under the symbol of ‘’STX’’. Seagate Technology offers products which are primarily divided into three sectors. These include Cloud & Edge Data Centre, Specialised Drives and Personal Storage. Storage Management, Edge Data storage and Transport, Data storage systems, Enterprise drives, Lvye Services, are offered under the products of Cloud & Edge Data Centre. Specialised Drives include gaming hard drives and SSDs, XBOX gaming, PlayStation gaming, PC gaming, Surveillance etc. Under the Personal Storage section, Seagate Technology provides external drive and PC upgrade products. Seagate Technology provides its products under the Backup Lines and Expansion production lines, Maxtor and LaCie brands. Seagate Technology expanded its business operations through several acquisitions over a long period of time. In 1996, Seagate Technology entered into a merger with its one-time confounder Finis Conner’s firm, Conner Peripherals. In 1997, it acquired Quinta Corporation. In 2005, the company acquired Mirra, Inc. In 2006, it purchased Maxtor for $1.9 billion. In 2014, the company further grew with the acquisition of Xyratex for $375 million. Again, in October 2015, Seagate Technology acquired DOT Hill Systems Corp. for approximately $696 million. Seagate Technology’s largest acquisition to date occurred in 2017 when it bought off Toshiba Memory for $18.0 billion. In 2020, Seagate Technology ranked 750th on the Forbes list of World’s Best Employers. The company was also acknowledged by Forbes as one of America’s Best Employers by State 2020. It ranked 840 in the list of Global 2000 2020 as well.;
