About the Company
Sonos is an American audio equipment developer and manufacturer best known for its multi-room audio systems. John MacFarlane, Craig Shelburne, Tom Cullen, and Trung Mai started the firm in 2002. Patrick Spence is the current owner of the company. Sonos has collaborated with over 100 music service providers, including Pandora, iHeartRadio, Spotify, MOG, QQ Music, and Amazon Music. Sonos devices are compatible with Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant, and Apple Siri, the three major speech assistants. Sonos purchased Snips SAS, a privacy-focused AI voice platform for connected devices, in 2019 with the intention of bringing a music-specific assistant to its products. There are presently eight powered speakers available from the company: five smart speakers (Move, Roam, One, One SL, and Play), two soundbars (ARC and BEAM), a television sound system (PLAYBASE), and a subwoofer (Sub). It also includes the AMP, which may be used to power unpowered speaker pairs, and the PORT, which can be used to connect a Sonos system to traditional audio equipment such as amplifiers and CD players.;
