About the Company

Sherwin Williams was started when Henry Sherwin took his savings of $2000 to acquire a Truman Dunham Company’s partnership. In four years’ time, this company dissolved, but Sherwin signed on two more partners, A.T. Osborn and Edward P. Williams. In 1877, it was named The Sherwin-Williams Company. This company became publicly traded in 1920. During World War 2, this company’s sales were boosted when the US required paint for camouflage painting of their trucks and other diverse army equipment. 1992 saw this company open its 2000th retail store. After this merger with The Valspar Corporation, Sherwin-Williams became one of the largest paints and coatings businesses worldwide. This company operates through three major sectors: the Performance Coatings Group, the America Group, and Consumer Brands Group. The America Group manages outlets for stains, branded paints, supplies, equipment, and floor coverings. Performance Coating Group offers finishings and coatings in domains of protective and marine, coil, packaging, industrial wood, and automotive markets. Lastly, the Consumer Brands Group manages and oversees private-label and brands through retailers in North America, Europe, China, New Zealand, and Australia. Sherwin Williams acquired several companies throughout its history. It began these acquisitions with Paint Sundry Brands Corp in 2004 and Duron Inc. in that same year. In 2007, this company took control of M.A. Bruder and Sons, and in 2012, it took charge of Geocel Holdings. The Valspar Corporation was taken over in 2016. In 2007, Sherwin-Williams bought Columbia Paints and Coatings. It acquired Leighs Paints, a company from the UK, in 2011. Late 2012 saw this conglomerate overtake Comex Group. Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine won three SSPC (Society for Protective Coatings Structure) Awards. The company also won the Charles G. Munger Award, Military Coatings Project Award of Excellence, and the Eric S. Kline Award. In 2011, Computerworld named this company the 58th Best Place to Work in the IT sector. Builder magazine recognised this company as the most recognised brand in 2015, and it became the winner in the brand familiarity and quality of the Paints category. 2018 saw this company rank 190th on the list of largest companies by revenue in the US.;
