Two engineers, Alfred W. Fielding and Marc Chavannes, invented the BUBBLE WRAP in 1957 when they tried to develop a new type of wall covering material. While the invention did not take off, they used its insulating properties to package objects and as an insulator. 1960 saw the two men start Sealed Air Corporation with BUBBLE WRAP as the company's signature brand. All through the 1970s, the company diversified its portfolio to include the Mail Lite and the new "foam-in-place" cushioning systems. The organisation expanded into Europe in the early 1970s and the Far East later in the decade. 1980s period saw the company diversify into packaging products for floppy disks and other food products. Sealed Air Corp expanded into Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.

Sealed Air Corp has 16,500 employees worldwide, and it is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA.
This corporation has seen several acquisitions throughout its many years in existence. It bought Smith Packaging Ltd., which was renamed as Sealed Air of Canada Ltd. 1973 took the company to Europe when it acquired a 10% stake at Sibco Universal, a manufacturing firm from France. In time, this corporation bought the rest of Sibco Universal. Sealed Air Corporation took over two companies in 1983, which are Cellu Products Co. and Dri-Loc. Some of the other companies acquired by Sealed Air Corporation are Jiffy (1987), Sentinel (1991), and Shurtuff Division of Shuford Mills (1993). Sealed Air Corp acquired Allied Products Ltd, Hereford Paper, Sup-Air-Pack, and fill Air, and various packaging companies in France and Italy. 2000 saw this company purchase Dolphin Packaging. Diversey Holdings Inc. was taken over in 2011 and Fagderala Singapore Pvt Ltd in 2017. In 2017, this company was named a finalist in 29th DuPont Awards for Packaging Innovation.;
