About the Company

Starbucks Corporation is an American multinational chain of coffee and roaster services with operations around the world. It started in 1971, at Pike Place Market in Seattle, as a retailer of whole bean and ground coffee and teas and other spices. Starbucks subsidiary brands include Teavana, Seattle’s Best Coffee, Evolution Fresh, Shaya Coffee Limited, and Torrefazione Italia LLC, among many others. The company sells more than 30 blends of single-origin or blends of premium coffees. Frappuccino is a Starbucks' trademark product in the espresso category, and Starbucks Refreshers in its non-coffee beverage segment. It sells merchandise like packaged goods, mugs, and coffee brewers besides sandwiches, salads, yoghurt parfaits and baked pastries. Starbuck Corporation stocks are a component of NASDAQ, after going public in 1992 under the symbol SBUX in NYSE. It is also a component of NASDAQ-100, besides being components of S&P-500 and S&P-100 since January 2000. The company’s first international venture outside North America was Japan, followed by Singapore. In 2002, Starbucks marked its presence in Germany, Greece and Spain, among others. Starbucks further spread out in Europe by opening stores in Norway, Finland and Costa Rica in 2012. As of June 30th, 2019, Starbucks has stores spread over more than 80 countries, with more than 30,000 outlets. The Product Development and Management Association (PDMA) awarded Outstanding Corporate Innovator to Starbucks, because of its innovative approach in business strategy with corporate commitment. It is the 51st company on the awardee list since 1988. Historic Seattle presented Starbuck Corporation with Best Adaptive Reuse Award in 2015 to renovate and preserve a century-old building on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. Starbucks' one of the most prominent acquisitions was Seattle Coffee Company, a packaged and brewed coffee company, from AFC Enterprises Inc. in 2003 for $72 million. The company then acquired Ethos Water, for a reported price of $8 million in April 2005. Teavana (tea and accessories) and bakery specialist, La Boulange are latest on the company’s list of acquisitions, with purchase prices of $620 million and $100 million, respectively in 2012.;
