About the Company

An American global cruise holding company, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. was established in Liberia and is based in Miami, Florida, US. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. was formed after the establishment of the parent company, Royal Caribbean Group. In the same year after establishment in 1997, this company acquired Celebrity Cruises. The two cruise companies remained separate despite the merger, leading to the establishment of two subsidiaries. These would include Royal Caribbean International and Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. In 2000, a third company was formed under this group, known as Island Cruises. This subsidiary became an informal cruise line on the British and Brazilian market. The Pullmantur cruise was purchased by this company in November 2006. This company is based in Madrid, Spain, and from here, Royal Caribbean Cruises expanded widely. Its merger with Azamara Cruises in May 2007 is what helped it grow within a short time frame. This was followed with the formation of CDF Croisières de France in May 2008, which is a cruise company that would serve the French market. This company also had an interest in TUI Cruises and wanted to enter in a joint venture with the company, operations for which began in 2009 and were mainly targeted towards the German market. TUI Travel, a subsidiary of TUI Cruises, had 50% interest in Island Cruises. This interest was followed by a merger with First Choice Holiday in 2007. Royal Caribbean Cruises would sell off their shares to rationalize their holding by selling their shares in Island Cruises to TUI. The company’s joint venture with ITM Group in 2019, led to the formation of Holistica. This company was created with an intention to develop cruise destinations. The only Caribbean destination this company was able to develop was Grand Lucayan Resort, which is located in Freeport. In July 2010, the company purchased the remaining shares of Silversea Cruises. This company has also received several awards and recognitions including ranking at 136 in World’s Best Employers list 2020 and at 156 in the list of Best Employers for Diversity 2020. This company also earned the 648th position, in the list of Global 2000 companies 2020. Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. shares are listed on the NYSE under the ticker symbol “RCL.” It is also a component of the S&P 500 index.;
