Its former name was partly taken from John Manning Van Heusen, a Dutch immigrant who invented a new process of fusing cloth on a curve in 1910. The company’s origin dates back to 1881 when Mosses Philip and his wife started to make shorts and sell them from pushcarts. This slowly took the shape of a stable business in New York City, and D Jones & Sons, a shirt manufacturing company founded in 1865 by Darmin Jones merged with them in 1907. Its name then changed from M Phillips & Sons to Phillips-Jones. It acquired Van Heusen from John Van Heusen and renamed it in 1957 to Phillips-Van Heusen. The company has been officially known as PVH since 2011. Over the years, PVH acquired several companies such as GH Bass in 1987, IZOD in 1995, ARROW in 2000, Calvin Klein in 2002, Superba, Inc. in 2007, Tommy Hilfiger in 2010, Warnaco Group in 2013, True&Co. in 2017, Geoffrey Beene in 2018, etc. As of 2021, it is a component of the Standard and Poor’s 500 index and trades on the New York Stock Exchange under PVH as its ticker symbol. The company entered the Fortune 500 list in 2011, and as of 2020, it ranks 322nd on this list. It is also a part of the Forbes Global 2000 2020 and Just Companies 2021 lists.
