The company has seven US facilities in locations such as Lancaster, Allentown, Harrisburg, Hazleton, Tannersville, etc. It has more than 10 million customers and over 36,000 square miles of territory across both countries. It has a capacity of producing approximately 7,500 megawatts of energy in the US itself. The company delivers about 140 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to its customers. This company has more than 10,000 miles of transmission lines, 1000 substations, 270,000 transformers, 200,000 miles of distribution lines, and 2.9 million towers and poles. It is one of the S&P 500 components that trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol PPL. PPL Corp was founded in 1920 as Pennsylvania Power & Light as a result of a merger between eight nominal Pennsylvania utilities. By 1955, the company reorganised itself as a holding company called PP&L Resources. It limited its activities to Pennsylvania in the 1990s, when deregulation of electrical utilities encouraged PPL to acquire assets in other areas. Its most substantial purchase was in 1998 when it bought 13 plants from Montana, and finally, in 2000, it was renamed as PPL Corp. In 2010, it acquired two regulated utilities in Kentucky, named Kentucky Utilities and Louisville Gas and Electric. Its next significant acquisition was in 2011 when it took over two regional electricity distribution companies located in the United Kingdom. It has been a part of the Fortune 500 companies for more than 20 years, and as of 2020, it is the 408th company in that list. Over the past few years, Forbes has also recognised it in several lists such as Global 2000 in 2020, America’s Best Employers in 2019 and America’s Largest Public Companies, World’s Best Employers and Best Employers for Diversity in 2018.;
