Headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA, Pentair plc is an American water treatment company, whose primary operations focus on providing water solutions for residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural and infrastructure applications. These water solutions help people, businesses and industries get access to clean water. On May 02, 1973, Pentair Inc. started trading on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol of ‘’PNR’’. Pentair Inc. stocks are also a component of the S&P 500 index. Pentair Inc. operations are conducted through three segments. These include Aquatic System, Filtration Solutions, and Flow Technologies. The Aquatic System covers the manufacturing and selling of residential and commercial pool equipment and related products such as pumps, heaters, filters, automatic controls, maintenance equipment, automatic cleaners and other pool products. The Filtration Solutions segment of Pentair Inc. manages the distribution of water and fluid treatment products and systems, which includes pressure tanks and vessels, activated carbon products, control valves, conventional filtration products, membrane bioreactors, wastewater reuse systems, etc. Under the Flow Technologies segment, Pentair Inc. provides products that range from light-duty diaphragm pumps to high-flow turbine pumps as well as solid handling pumps.
The principal subsidiaries of Pentair Inc. include Aplex industries, Inc., Axholme Resources Limited (UK), EuroPentair GmbH (Germany), Evenpure, LLC, National Pool Tile Group, Inc., Pentair Electronic Packaging Company, Pentair Poland, Pentair Water Treatment Company, etc. Pentair Inc. started its journey in 1966 as a high-altitude balloon production company. The company name was derived from the Greek word ‘Penta’ referring to the five founding fathers of the company and ‘air’. Soon after, the company moved into other industries and focused on the industry of water treatment and sustainable applications. It was incorporated in 1966 in Ireland. As of August 2020, the company holds an employee base of 9,500.
Over the years, Pentair Inc. grew through a number of acquisitions. In 1999, the company acquired Essef (a global leader in manufacturing water equipment) for approximately $312 million. In the year 2004, Pentair Inc. purchased WICOR Industries for $850 million. In 2006, PNR acquired the German company, Jung Pumpen GmbH (the deal was completed in early 2007). The purchase of Tyco Flow Control in 2012 at the price of $4.9 billion made it the largest acquisition of Pentair Inc. The history of Pentair Inc. is characterised by a number of sales as well. In 2016, it sold Pentair-Valves & Controls Business to Emerson Electric at the price of $3.15 billion.
Throughout its existence, Pentair Inc. bagged a number of awards and acknowledgements. In 2020, it ranked 596th on Forbes World’s Best Employers category. In 2017, Pentair Inc. ranked 1197th on Forbes list of Global 2000.;
