They offer a wide range of conventional brown kraft corrugated boxes along with high-graphic packaging and unique displays. Packaging Corporation of America shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “PKG''. The company operates through the following divisions: Corporate, Packaging, Paper and Others. The Packaging division is engaged in the production of corrugated boxes. The Paper segment is involved in the manufacture, marketing and distribution of a wide range of papers, including pressure-sensitive papers and communication-based papers.
Some of the subsidiaries of PKG include Boise, Central Texas Corrugated, Hexacomb Corporation, Packaging Specialists, Northern Sheets, Dixie Container Corporation Packaging Credit Company, Hexacomb Canada Holdings Packaging Corporation of Chicago, PCA Denver, PCA Hydro, Packaging Corporation of Asia Limited and PCA Southern Indiana Corrugated. The containerboard mills of PKG are engaged in the manufacture of semi-chemical corrugating medium and linerboard. Its corrugated products manufacturing plants produce a wide range of products which include traditional shipping containers, boxes with multiple colours. Moreover, PKG also provides packaging material for beverages, fruits, vegetables, frozen food and other consumer and industrial products.
The company conducts its operations mainly in America and employs more than 14,000 employees. The company was established following the merger of three companies in 1959. Six years later, it was acquired by Tenneco, a manufacturer and marketer of automotive parts. The company was renamed to Tenneco Packaging, Inc. in 1995. 4 years later, it was renamed to Packaging Corporation of America. Since its incorporation, PKG has acquired more than 10 companies. Its largest acquisition was made in 2013 when it completed the acquisition of Boise Inc. for an estimated $2 billion. PKG has made acquisitions in more than 7 states in America. Two of its most targeted sectors include forest products and packaging. In 2009, the company established a project management and design facility which conducted its operations under the name Packaging Corporation of Asia Limited. In 2016, PKG purchased TimBar Packaging and Display, and in the following year, it completed the acquisition of Sacramento Container Corporation. In 2018, PKG was ranked 405th on Forbes’ list of America’s Largest Public Companies. In 2020, it occupied the 1369th position on Forbes’ Global 2000 list. Moreover, in the same year, it was ranked 437th on the list of Fortune 500 companies.;
