Arthur L. Parker founded the company in 1917 under the name Parker Appliance Company. At that time it produced products like pneumatic brake systems for trains, trucks and busses. It ventured into the field of aeroplanes in 1927 and provided aeroplane parts for Charles Lindbergh’s aircraft Spirit of St. Louis. Parker Appliance’s first significant acquisition was Hannifin in 1957, and by 1979 it had acquired about 40 more companies. The company has traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) since 1964 under “PH” as its ticker symbol. On 30th November 1985, it entered the S&P 500 list, and as of 2021, it remains a part of it. The company has acquired several companies such as Commercial Intertech Corporation, Clarcor, Kalamazoo, Naples, etc. Parker-Hannifin Corporation has been a part of the Fortune 500 list since 1966, and as of 2020, it is the 224th company in it. Forbes has also recognised it in two of its 2020 lists, namely America’s Best Employers by State and Global 2000.;
