About the Company
Founded in 1957 on December 2nd, O’Reilly Automotive was set up by Charles O’Reilly. This company has its corporate headquarters located in Springfield, Missouri in the United States. Initially, Charles O’Reilly and his son Chub worked for a company called Link Motor Supply as salespersons. When Link Motor Supply looked to restructure its company, the two decided to start their own company called O’Reilly Automotive Inc. The company has 77,000 employees. During the first year of the company, it totalled 700,000 USD in sales. By 1961 it had surpassed the earlier mark to reach 1.3 million USD. By 1975 the company extended to nine stores throughout Missouri and sales reached around 7 million USD. The initial public offering of O’Reilly Automotive stock was held in April 1933 on the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol of ORLY. Currently, O’Reilly operates in 47 seven states with distribution centres in 27 locations. O’Reilly Automotive shares also became a component of the S & P 50 index on 27th March, 2009.
The company operates under two umbrellas. The first one is to supply automotive parts to professional installers who provide repair services. The second is to retail or walk-in customers who attempt to fit the automobile parts themselves. This dual marketing strategy has been the cause of O’Reilly’s success. They have separate counters and phone lines and delivery systems for their professional fitter systems. They sell parts related to the following aspects of automobiles, Air conditioning and heating, Battery, Bearings and Seals, Belts and Hoses, Brakes, Chassis and Steering, Engine Cooling, Exhaust, and Filters to name a few. Throughout its history, the company has acquired several companies. In 1998 it merged with Hi/LO Auto Supply, and in 2000 bought KarPro Auto Parts. Other mergers and acquisitions include Mid-State Automotive Distributors, Inc. (2001), Midwest Automotive Distributors, Inc. (2005), CSK Autos (2008), VIP Parts, Tires and Service (2012), Bond Auto Parts (2016), Bennett Auto Supply (2018), Mayasa Auto Parts (2019). In 2020, the company had a net income of 1.39 billion USD.;
