Established in 1992 by David Hitz, James Lau and Michael Malcolm, NetApp Inc., formerly known as Network Appliance Inc., is a world-famous cloud data services, storage systems and software solutions provider. It is located in Sunnyvale California and has over 10,000 employees. This company has worked in tandem with AWS, Microsoft and Google to develop cloud-based systems such as Azure NetApp Files, NetApp and Google partnership.
The cloud-based products provided by the company include Cloud Volumes Services for AWS, Cloud Volumes Service for Google Cloud, Cloud Volumes ONTAP, Cloud Sync, Cloud Compliance, and Cloud Tiering.
Under its Hybrid Cloud solutions provision, the following user-answers exist: Virtualization, Service Provider Infrastructure, IT Automation, Private Clouds, VMWare and Private Cloud, Red Hat and PrivateCloud. For data storage, the solutions provided are SAN, Scale-Out NAS, Unstructured Data Solutions, and the products available are AFF A-Series, AFFC190, E-series, E1-Series, FlexPod and Solid Fire.
The company also has features for providing Data security. These are ONTAP Data Security, Data Compliance, Data Security, Data Backup and Recovery, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. Under Artificial Intelligence, the company also has solutions encompassing Big Data Analytics and High-Performance Computing. The product ONTAP AI is a part of its arsenal.
NetApp has acquired many companies throughout the years. It managed to weather the Internet boom of the 1990s. Some of the more significant acquisitions that the company has managed to make are Internet Middleware (1997), Spinnaker Networks (2004), Alacritus and (2005), Topio (2006). Apart from these, it has also taken hold of Onaro (2008), Bycast (2010), Akkorri and Engenio(2011), Bycast and Cache IQ (2012). Some of its latest acquisitions are Spot, CloudJumper, and Talon in 2020, Cognigo in 2019 and StackPointCloud in 2018. The other companies that NetApp has managed to buy are Greenqloud, SolidFire, IonGrid, SteelStore, and Plexistor.
NetApp shares are listed on the NASDAQ stock exchange and these trade under the ticker symbol of NTAP. NTAP stock price reached its all-time high at $148.60 on October 20, 2000. Following Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quadrant for Solid-state arrays, NetApp came in second place. The next year, it managed to come in the first place under the category of Primary Storage.;
