About the Company

Mettler-Toledo International is a multinational company engaged in the manufacture of scientific instruments. The company traces its corporate roots to the Toledo Computing Scale and Cash Register Company founded in 1901. This firm underwent several name changes since its inception. It renamed itself to Toledo Computing Scale Company in 1902. Subsequently, in 1912, it changed its name to Toledo Scale Company. In 1992, it merged with Mettler Instruments, the namesake of the company, thereby incorporating Mettler Toledo, Inc. Its shares began trading on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol of MTD. MTD shares are also included as a component on the S&P 500 stock market index. The company’s corporate headquarters are in Columbus, Ohio, United States. It manufactures and markets weighing instruments for use by laboratories, food retailing as well as industries. Mettler-Toledo International also sells analytical instruments for use in the development of chemical compounds and drugs. Additionally, it offers inspection systems that are utilised in the production and packaging of consumer goods, pharmaceutical and other products. MTD operates through five segments, namely Swiss Operations, Western European operations, Chinese Operations, US Operations, and Other. It has a number of subsidiaries, such as Mettler-Toledo S.p.A. (Italy); Bohdan Europe Limited (U.K.), Xinjiang Toledo Electronic Scale Ltd. (China), Mettler-Toledo AO (Russia), Gelan Metaaldetectiesystemen B.V. (Netherlands), Mettler-Toledo India Private Limited (India), Mettler-Toledo (Korea) Ltd., Safeline do Brasil Limitada (Brazil), Mettler-Toledo Myriad Limited (U.K.) and Mettler-Toledo Process Analytical Inc. (U.S.A.), among others. Over the years, the company made several key acquisitions and expanded its business profile. In 2010, it acquired Anachem, a UK-based firm, for an undisclosed sum. MTD bought-off Instant BioScan, a startup in Tuscany, Italy that developed microbial detection systems for water in 2016. As of 2021, it ranked 1425th on Forbes’ list of Global 2000 2020 companies. Alongside its operations in the United States, MTD has a global presence across several countries around the world, such as China, Germany, India, Belgium, Hungary, Brazil, Canada, Japan, Mexico, Italy, Netherlands, Malaysia, South Korea, UAE, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, Sweden, and New Zealand, among others.;
