About the Company

M&T Bank Corp is a multi-state bank holding company in the United States. Founded in 1856, the company traces its origin to the Manufacturers and Traders Bank in New York. It changed its name to M&T Bank Corporation in 1998, which was later renamed to Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company, or M&T Bank, its current corporate name. Its headquarters are in Buffalo, New York, United States. M&T Bank shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol of MTB. MTB shares are also included as a component on the S&P 500 stock market index. The company offers banking, investments, mortgage, insurance and commercial financial services to its customers. Its products and services include business checking, cash management, business credit cards, business financing, digital banking and merchant services. M&T Bank Corporation operates in several states across the United States, namely New Jersey, Pennsylvania, New York, Delaware, Virginia, Connecticut, Maryland, Washington, DC and West Virginia. MTB conducts its operations through over 750 branches, 1800 ATMs and a number of online services. Over the years, it acquired several companies and expanded its business profile. Its first merger took place in 1987 when MTB bought-off East NY Savings. In 1994, it purchased Hudson Valley branches of the Chemical Bank, one of the largest banks in the US at the time. M&T Bank made another acquisition in 2000 and purchased Keystone Financial of Central Pennsylvania. A major merger took place in 2003 when it acquired Allfirst Bank of Baltimore in a transaction of $3.1 billion. In 2006, MTB bought-off 21 branches of Citibank in Upstate New York. This trail of acquisitions continued in subsequent years, and M&T Bank purchased Wilmington Trust for $351 million in 2011 and Hudson City Bancorp for $3.7 billion in 2015. As of 2021, the company ranked 438th on the list of Fortune 500 companies. It ranked 543rd on Forbes’ list of Global 2000 2020 companies. Forbes also included MTB in its 2020 rankings of Best-In-State Banks, World’s Best Banks, America’s Best Employers By State, and America’s Best Banks.;
