About the Company

Headquartered in New York City, New York, Morgan Stanley is a multinational financial service and investment banking company. As of 2020, the company has a workforce of more than 60,000 employees working across 42 countries globally. Some of these countries are Australia, Brazil, Peru, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, the United Kingdom, India, the United States, etc. Its clientele includes governments, individuals, institutions and corporations. The company is primarily involved in innovation, research, wealth management, sales & trading, sustainable investing, investment banking & capital marking, etc. It has over 15,000 technologies spread around the world and does about 10 billion transactions annually. It also provides approximately 43,000 software and feature enhancements every year. It is a component in both the S&P 100 and S&P 500 indices as of 2020. Morgan Stanley shares trade under the trading symbol MS on the New York Stock Exchange. The original Morgan Stanley was incorporated in 1935 as JP Morgan & Co. However, due to the Glass-Steagall Act, it could not have both commercial banking and investment banking under its main company. It opted to continue with being a commercial banking business and a different firm Morgan Stanley was formed for the investment banking part. The firm’s first significant acquisition was Brooks, Harvey & Co., Inc. in 1967. Following which it acquired the company called Van Kampen American Capital in 1996. The present MS came into existence when the firm merged with Dean Witter Discover & Co., Sears Roebuck’s spin-off financial services business. The company was now named “Morgan Stanely Dean Witter Discover & Co.”, but it was soon changed to ‘Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.’ in 1998. Finally, in 2001 the company went back to its previous name Morgan Stanley'. Over the years it acquired companies like Citigroup’s Smith Barney in 2009, E-Trade and Eaton Vance in 2020. It is the 61st company in the Fortune 500 Companies list and 203rd in the Fortune Global 500 Companies list as of 2020. In the same year, Forbes recognized it in four of its prestigious lists, namely America’s Best employers By State, Global 2000, World’s Best Employers and Best Employers for Women.;
