The present MS came into existence when the firm merged with Dean Witter Discover & Co., Sears Roebuck’s spin-off financial services business. The company was now named “Morgan Stanely Dean Witter Discover & Co.”, but it was soon changed to ‘Morgan Stanley Dean Witter & Co.’ in 1998.
