MGM Resorts International is a multinational hospitality and entertainment company. The company began operations in 1987 as MGM Grand, Inc. and later changed its corporate name to MGM Mirage in 2000. It adopted its current name, MGM Resorts International, in 2010. MGM Resort International shares trade on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol of MGM. MGM shares are also included as a component of the S&P 500 stock market index. The company’s headquarters are in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The company offers hotels, casinos, meeting spaces, conference halls, restaurants as well as live and theatrical entertainment services. Its portfolio has 29 properties in the United States, China and Japan. It includes some notable brands such as MGM Grand, Bellagio, Park MGM, Mirage Las Vegas, Borgata, MGM Springfield, MGM National Harbor, and ARIA. Nine of its domestic resorts are on the Las Vegas Strip, while others are in Maryland, Mississippi, Michigan, New Jersey and Massachusetts. MGM also owns 50% of Las Vegas’ CityCenter. Its operations in China consists of two properties in Macau, namely MGM Cotai and MGM Macau. The company has a joint venture with Diaoyutai State Guesthouse of China called Diaoyutai MGM Hospitality. It also has a 50/50 venture called BetMGM, LLC, which offers an online gaming experience. MGM Resorts International completed a key acquisition in 2000 and bought-off Mirage Resorts, Inc. for a purchase price of $6.4 billion. This was also the largest acquisition of its kind in the gaming industry at the time. Another merger took place in 2005 when MGM purchased Mandalay Resort Group in a transaction of $7.9 billion. In 2018, it entered into a joint venture with Entain PLC (formerly GVC Holdings) and incorporated Roar Digital, LLC. Subsequently, Forbes recognized MGM as one of America’s Largest Public Companies in 2018.
As of 2021, the company was recognized as one of the 98 organisations that create an inclusive workspace by Diversity Best Practices (DBP). It ranked 249th on the list of Fortune 500 companies. It ranked 290th on Forbes’ list of Best Employers for Diversity 2020. Forbes also included MGM Resorts International in its rankings of World’s Best Employers 2020, America’s Best Employers by State 2020, and Best Employers for Diversity 2020.;
