About the Company

Medtronic PLC is an American company that offers medical equipment. Founded in the year 1949, the company is one of the world’s largest medical device companies. Medtronic is an Irish-domiciled enterprise with its corporate headquarters in Dublin, Ireland. It trades on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol of MDT. MDT shares are also included as a component of the S&P 500 as well as the S&P 100 stock market indices. The company opened its first international office in Amsterdam in 1967. It entered the Canadian market in 1968 and expanded to China and India’s emerging markets in 1970. By 1974, Medtronic had a global presence in more than 70 countries. Over the years, MDT has acquired several companies and expanded their business operations. In 2010, it bought off Ardian, Inc. in an $800 million transaction. The year 2010 also witnessed a trail of acquisitions by MDT and it bought-off a total of six companies, including ATS Medical, Osteotech Inc., Invatec, and Krauth Cardiovascular. In 2014, MDT entered into a key acquisition and bought-off Covidien for a price of $42.9 billion. Through this merger, Medtronic moved its legal registration and headquarters from the United States to Ireland in 2015. Its latest acquisitions took place in 2020 when the company purchased Medicrea, Stimgenics LLC, Avenue Medical, and Companion Medical. As of 2021, the company operates in over 150 countries across the world, including Australia, New Zealand, India, Bulgaria, Canada, Costa Rica, France, Ireland, Mexico, South Korea, United Kingdom, Turkey, Russia, Romania, Japan, and Israel, among others. Its product portfolio includes cardiac ablation solutions, surgical robotics, cranial & spinal technologies, cardiovascular diagnostics & services, patient monitoring, renal care solutions, respiratory interventions, and several other solutions. Medtronic also holds more than 49,000 patents and 39 research and development sites. It ranked 408th on the list of Fortune 500 companies. Medtronic PLC ranked 129th on Forbes’ list of Global 2000 2020 companies. Forbes also included MDT in its rankings for World’s Best Employers 2020, Best Employers for Women 2020, Best Employers for Diversity 2020 as well as Just Companies 2021.;
