About the Company

Headquartered in Irving, Texas, McKesson Corporation is an American company that provides healthcare supply chain solutions and medical supplies. Moreover, it also offers a vast network infrastructure to the healthcare industry and has partnered with pharmaceutical companies, governments and pharmacies, and various other medicinal management organisations. McKesson Corporation shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) under the ticker symbol “MCK”. Its operations are segregated into three separate divisions: US Pharmaceutical & Specialty Solutions, Medical & Surgical Solutions, and European Pharmaceutical Solutions. The first segment is involved in the provision of pharmaceutical and various types of healthcare products to biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and life system technologies companies. The Medical-Surgical Solutions segment provides various medical-surgical products and logistics services to organisations providing healthcare services. The European Pharmaceutical Solutions segment supplies various products to the wholesale markets and retail customers. Charles Olcott and McKesson founded McKesson Corporation as Charles M. Olcott in 1828, and the business involved import and wholesale of botanical drugs. Five years later, its name became Olcott, McKesson and Co. After Olcott died in 1853, the company was renamed as McKesson and Robbins. Since its inception, McKesson has acquired over 20 companies. Its largest acquisition came in the year 1999 when it acquired HBO & Company (HBOC) for approximately $14.1 billion. Following the acquisition, it carried on its operations under the name McKesson HBO for 2 years. In 2010, McKesson acquired US Oncology, Inc. for an estimated $2.16 billion, which was subsequently added to the Specialty Solutions segment. Four years later, it completed the acquisition of Celesio. Some more key purchases include Per-Se Technologies for an estimated $1.80 billion in 2006 and CoverMyMeds for approximately $1.10 billion in 2017. Besides making acquisitions, MCK has also made more than 10 investments. Some of the sectors targeted by McKesson Corporation include Information Technology, Pharmacy Information Technology, Biotech Research & Development, and more. In 2016, McKesson was ranked 2nd by Fortune on its list of the Most Admired Companies belonging to the healthcare industry. Moreover, in 2020, McKesson Corporation occupied the 8th position on the list of Fortune 500 companies.;
