Alliant Energy Corporation is a public utility holding company headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin. It operates through four of its subsidiaries; these are Resource, Interstate Power and Light Company (IPL), Corporate Services and Wisconsin Power and Light Company (WPL). As of 2020, it had over 3,590 employees serving over 417,300 natural gas and 971,300 electric customers across Iowa and Wisconsin. The company has five affiliate sites, namely CRANDIC, PowerHouse TV, Alliant Energy Kids, Travero and Alliant Energy Retirees.
Its service area across Wisconsin and Iowa is over 54,300 square miles with about 9,700 miles of natural gas main and approximately 43,900 miles of electric lines. The company produces over 32 million megawatt-hours of electricity every year and transports approximately 152,985 thousands of dekatherms of natural gas. It offers its services to both residential individuals and businesses. The company offers noteworthy products, such as smart meters, electric forklifts, learning thermostats, electric vehicles, electric truck refrigeration units and electric vehicle workplace charging station. Alliant also provides sustainable energy choices such as Geothermal energy, Alliant Energy customer hosted renewables, Anaerobic digesters, customer interconnection, etc. It also provides assistance to individuals looking for ways to save up on their energy expenses.
In 2020, one of the subsidiaries of Alliant Energy Corporation, Alliant Energy Transportation, changed its name to Travero. It was founded in 1917, but it wasn’t addressed as Alliant until the 2000s. The company acquired a lot of businesses over the years, such as the Union Electric Company's Iowa operations, Dane County Expo Center's naming rights, and the 200 MW Buffalo Creek Wind Farm (bought off from the Wind Capital Group). In the year 2006, Alliant Energy Corp closed a deal with FPL Energy in order to sell their stake in the Duane Arnold Energy Centre, an Iowa-based 615 MW nuclear plant.
Alliant Energy Corp shares trade in the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol “LNT”, and on 1st July 2016, it entered the S&P 500 index. In the same year, it ranked 1318th on Forbes’ Global 2000. ;
