About the Company

Eli Lilly and Company is a pharmaceutical company based in Indianapolis, Indiana, and as of 2020, it is one of the largest manufacturers of psychiatric medicines. The company has its operations spread across 18 countries with a workforce of more than 33,600 employees. It runs clinical test facilities in 55 countries and markets its products to over 120 nations. The company produces medicines under six segments, namely, Immunology, Pain, COVID-19, Cancer, Neurodegeneration and Diabetes. Some of the medicines developed by it are AMYViD, Baqsimi, Forteo, Humalog, Insulin Lispro, Tradjenta, Zyprexa, Cymbalta, Prozac, Symbyax, Lartruvo, etc. Eli Lilly was the first company to mass-produce insulin and polio vaccine, and as of 1997, it was the largest charitable benefactor and corporation in Indiana. It also has six types of resources working under its umbrella, namely Lilly Cares Foundation, Lilly Minnesota Insulin Safety Net Program, Lilly Diabetes Solution Center, Lilly Pricing Information, The Lilly Answers Center and Lilly Oncology Support Center. It is a full member of the EFPIA (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations) and the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America. Eli Lilly and Company is a component in both the S&P 100 and S&P 500 indices. Eli Lilly shares trade under the ticker symbol “LLY” in the New York Stock Exchange. The company was founded in 1876 when a pharmaceutical chemist named Eli Lilly opened his first laboratory in Indianapolis. Over the years, it has acquired several companies, such as Elizabeth Arden Inc. in 1971, IVAC Corporation and Cardiac Pacemakers Inc. in 1977, Physio-Control Corporation in 1980, Advanced Cardiovascular Systems Inc. in 1984, Pacific Biotec in 1990, Heart Rhythm Technologies, Inc. in 1992, PCS Health Systems in 1994, CoLucid Pharmaceuticals in 2017, Armo Biosciences in 2018, etc. It has been a Fortune 500 company for more than two decades, and as of 2020, it ranks 145th in the list. In 2020, Forbes also recognised Eli Lilly in two of its lists, namely, the World’s Best Employers and Global 2000. Other established companies have also recognised the LLY. Some of these are the World’s Most Ethical Companies by Ethisphere, America’s Most Responsible Companies by Newsweek, 16th Top Employer by Science Magazine, Innovative Practices Award By BIO-IT World.;
