On May 8, 1886, the first Coca-Cola was served at Jacob’s Pharmacy by Dr. John Pemberton. He later sold the formula and brand to Asa Griggs Candler in 1889 for $2300. The Coca-Cola Company was then officially founded on January 29, 1892, by Asa Griggs Candler. Since then, this global beverage manufacturing company expanded its business operations. Coca-Cola is headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, and it manufactures, sells and markets its range of non-alcoholic beverages across the globe.
Coca-Cola, a Fortune 500 company, works with around 200 brands worldwide including, Fanta, Sprite, Dasani, Smartwater, Innocent, Simply, Georgia Coffee, Fuze Tea and many more. In January 2006, Coca-Cola owned bottling operation units with Bottling Investment Group or BIG. In 1917, Coca-Cola partnered with the Red Cross. Coca-Cola was available in 44 countries at the onset of World War II. Robert Woodruff, the then Coca-Cola President, ordered that every uniformed man should get a bottle of Coca-Cola for 5 cents after the US entered WWII in 1941. After the war was over, their bottling operations expanded in different countries worldwide. It today operates in more than 200 locations in several countries, including America, Canada, the UK, Germany, France, India, Belgium, etc.
They have an extensive range of product variety. For instance, zero-sugar coke, vanilla, orange vanilla, cherry, diet coke, espresso, energy and life coke. In Sprite segment, they also have two distinct flavours like cranberry and cranberry zero. This company also introduced smoothies that contain fresh fruits and vegetables. They launched their first diet drink in 1963. In 2018, Coca-Cola also introduced innovative Fountain Dispenser that pours almost 14 million drinks per day. They have more than 50,000 such units at various public places, including cinema halls, shopping malls, etc. This multinational company has a workforce of more than 7,00,000 employees. Coca-Cola also engages in waste recycling and limiting plastic usage and incorporates processes that reduce carbon footprint.
The Coca-Cola Foundation is its not-for-profit organisation that aims at community development. Coca-Cola mainly markets its products in North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific, Europe, Africa, and Eurasia. Coca-Cola shares are traded on the NYSE under the ticker symbol “KO”. Also, It is a part of the S&P 500, S&P100 and DJIA indices.
Its first acquisition was Minute Maid in 1960. One of its biggest acquisitions was that of Costa for $4.9 billion in January 2019. Costa Coffee is now available in two variants, original and latte. In the course of its business operations, this company also gained immense recognition from credible sources. The Coca-Cola Company made it to the Forbes’ Global 2000 2020 with a rank of 96.
