Intuitive Surgical, Inc. is an American company engaged in healthcare services. It operates in the industry of medical appliances and equipment in the US. Founded in 1995, the company’s corporate headquarters is in Sunnyvale, California, United States. In 2000, it raised $46 million in an initial public offering. Subsequently, its shares began trading on the NASDAQ Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol of ISRG. ISRG shares are a component on the NASDAQ-100 as well as S&P 500 stock market indices. The company develops, manufactures, and markets healthcare products that enable robotic-assisted surgeries, the most notable being its Da Vinci Surgical System. It was one of the first of its kind to be approved by the FDA for laparoscopic surgery. There are nearabout 5580 Da Vinci systems across the world with approximately 7.2 million procedures completed. Through Da Vinci, ISRG offers an array of products, such as systems, software, services and instruments. These are used by surgeons every 26 seconds worldwide in medical procedures like prostatectomies, gynaecological surgeries, and cardiac valve repair. The surgeon operates the machine with a console. ISRG’s product line also includes Ion, a device that performs minimally invasive peripheral lung biopsy. Over the years, Intuitive Surgical Inc. acquired a number of companies and expanded its business operations. In 2003, it bought-off Computer Motion in a transaction valued at approximately $141.44 million. Another merger took place in 2003 when ISRG purchased Neoguide Systems for an undisclosed amount. In 2014 Intuitive Surgical, Inc. purchased Luna Innovations’ shape-sensing technology for a price of $9 million. As of January 2021, its latest acquisition took place in 2020, when ISRG bought-off Orpheus Medical and expanded its integrated informatics platform. In 2019, Forbes recognized ISRG as one of America’s Best Midsize Employers. The company ranked 513th on Forbes’ list of World’s Best Employers. As of 2021, Intuitive Surgical, Inc. ranked 597th on the list of Fortune 500 companies. It ranked 954th on Forbes’ list of Global 2000 2020. Forbes also included Intuitive Surgical, Inc. in its rankings of Just Companies 2021.;
