Formerly known as Quintiles and IMS Health, Inc., IQVIA is a Durham, North Carolina-based global leader in using technology, data, expertise and advanced analytics. Through this, it helps its customers to develop better healthcare systems and aids to improve human health in general. The company also has another headquarter in Danbury, Connecticut. It has operations running in more than 100 countries globally and has a workforce of over 67,000 employees. Some of its operational bases include Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, the United States, Jordan, Ghana, India, Singapore, Italy, France, Croatia, Greece, Japan, Pakistan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Canada, Belgium, etc.
To its customers, it provides more than 40 commercial offerings using machine learning and artificial intelligence. The company has a record of over 800 million records of non-identified patients. As of 2019, it is considered as one of the largest contract research organisations in the world. IQVIA primarily focuses on Phase I-IV clinical trials.
The company was established in 1982 by Dennis Gillings in North Carolina as Quintiles Transnational. Eight years later, it formed the Quintiles Ireland Ltd. and Quintiles Pacific Inc. In 1991, the Quintiles Laboratories Ltd. was established in Atlanta, Georgia and the Quintiles GmbH was set Germany. In 1996 it made a significant acquisition and purchased Innovex Ltd. for $747.5 million. The company then went public in 1997. It started to trade in the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol Q which was later changed to IQV. After almost two decades from then in 2016 the company underwent a merger with IMS Health and changed its name to QuintilesIMS.
As a result of this merger, Cegedim Relationship Management's developed OneKey worldwide healthcare professionals database also became a part of QuintilesIMS. In 2017, the company's name underwent another change and adopted its current name IQVIA. As a result, the company changed its trading symbol in New York Stock Exchange from Q to IQV. As of 2020, it is one of the Fortune 500 companies and is also recognized as one of the Year's World's Most Admired Companies. Forbes has also recognized it in three of its 2020 lists, namely World's Best Employer, Global 2000 and America's Best Employer by State.;
