Headquartered in Oxford, Massachusetts IPG Photonics Corporation is a global manufacturer and developer of high-performance amplifiers and fiber lasers. As of 2020, it has a workforce of more than 5,000 employees working in its manufacturing and sales operations spread across the globe. Some of its locations are Russia, Italy, Singapore, Germany, the United States, Brazil, Spain, Canada, the United Kingdom, China, Czech Republic, India, Turkey etc. It offers products under six segments, namely beam delivery, medical, telecom equipment, laser and laser systems. Some of its featured products are Ylpp-200-1-200-R, YLR-U Series Fiber Laser, LDD-700, YLS-AMB Adjusting Model, YLS-3000-U, QCW 2x PeakPower, etc. It provides these products to 14 industries such as advanced & scientific, automotive, nuclear power, oil & gas, aerospace, consumer electronics & appliances, heavy industry & transport, medical device manufacturing, medical procedures, semiconductor, photovoltaics, etc. According to the company, its products can be used for six different applications, including medical, materials processing, laser application centre, telecommunications, advanced & scientific and micromachining. The company was founded in Russia by a physicist named Valentin P. Gapontsev in 1990. In that year he and Igor Samartsev first introduced the idea of using fiber laser technology to produce high power laser beams. By further enhancing this idea, by the end of 1991, Gapontsev and Alexander Shestakov formed NTO IRE-Polus. The ‘IPG’ in its current name is the acronym for ‘IRE-Polus Group’. It was Gapontsev who started to use this acronym while referring to his company. Since 1993 it has worked with several well-known companies such as Italtel, Daimler Benz Aerospace, etc. In 2006 IPG Photonics started its initial public offering (IPO) and began trading in the NASDAQ stock exchange under the ticker symbol IPGP. In the same year, the company also entered the S&P 500 index and became one of its components. As of 2020, IPGP is counted among the 100 fastest-growing companies in the world by Fortune.;
